EU Commissioner Lenarčič to present EU-funded ‘Futureproof-IE’ report during Ireland visit

28 March

Brussels, 28 March 2024

Today, Commissioner for Crisis management Janez Lenarčič will be in Dublin, Ireland, on the occasion of the presentation of the results of the ‘Futureproof-IE’ report together with the Tánaiste Micheál Martin. The report focuses on Ireland’s implementation of the EU Disaster Resilience Goals. Its main goal is to strengthen Ireland’s risk assessment methodology, integrating foresight and forecasting into it to better assess emergent risks. By doing so, it contributes to the implementation of EU Disaster Resilience Goal number 1: Anticipate.

‘Futureproof-IE’ was funded with a Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) grant for Technical Assistance for Disaster Risk Management. These grants financially support EU member states’ authorities to strengthen their institutional and policy framework for disaster risk management. In 2023, the overall budget was €7.6 million for 15 projects in 11 countries. The project ‘Futureproof-IE’ has lasted fifteen months, from January 2023 to March 2024, and the amount of the grant was approximately €57,000.

During his mission, the Commissioner will also discuss global humanitarian issues with the Tánaiste and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence, Micheál Martin, including the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. He will also exchange on the EU Disaster Resilience Goals and the UCPM with the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien. Finally, the Commissioner will meet stakeholders from Irish humanitarian NGOs.
