EU Auditors present report “Climate adaptation in the EU”

On Wednesday 16 October, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) will publish a special report examining the action undertaken by the EU to adjust to climate change and reduce its impacts.

About the topic

There is an urgent need to adapt to extreme climate and weather events, such as heatwaves, droughts and floodings, which are increasingly frequent and severe. While mitigation actions reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation actions aim to adjust to climate change to reduce its impacts.

The EU published its first adaptation strategy in 2013 and another in 2021, confirming the EU’s high vulnerability to climate change.

About the audit

The auditors assessed the EU’s climate adaptation framework and how a selection of EU adaptation projects addressed the impacts of climate change. The report and press release will be published on the ECA website eca.europa.eu at 5:00 p.m. CEST on Wednesday 16 October.
