MFF: debate on next EU long term budget with EIB and EU Court of Auditors (6 November)

BUDG members will exchange with Nadia Calviño, President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Tony Murphy, President of the European Court of Auditors (ECA), on the lessons learnt from the current EU long-term budget.

The debate will feed into the BUDG own-initiative report “A revamped long-term budget for the Union in a changing world”, in which Parliament will set out its priorities and expectations for the next EU long-term budget (post-2027) before the European Commission proposal in 2025.

Confirmation hearing: EU Commissioner-designate for Budget (7 November 14:30-17:30)

Piotr Serafin, Commissioner-designate for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration will be heard by the BUDG and CONT committees on 7 November 2024 afternoon. During the confirmation hearing, the commissioner-designate will give an opening speech and then answer questions by committee members.

MFF: workshop on the post-2027 EU long term budget (7 November 9:00-12:00)

In a context shaped by unprecedented challenges and uncertainties, this workshop will delve into topics of strategic relevance for the BUDG Committee and its preparatory work for the own-initiative report that will set out the Parliament’s priorities and expectations for the post-2027 EU long-term budget, before the Commission’s proposal, due by July 2025.

The workshop will gather external experts from the London School of Economics, CEPS, University of Cologne, College of Europe, Bruegel and Jacques Delors Institute, that will share their insights and policy-oriented inputs regarding the following topics:

  • Performance-based instruments and mainstreaming in the EU budget
  • EU added value
  • MFF flexibility
  • Management of EU liabilities
  • EU enlargement
