Public hearing

Brussels

The Section for Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion (ECO) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is working on an own-initiative opinion on Climate change and its impact on the economy, with the aim of developing a common narrative about the impact of climate change on the economy. Climate change is an existential threat; therefore, a comprehensive overview of its impact on the real economy is needed to develop an appropriate macroeconomic policy response. Macroeconomic and financial stability are essential, as increasingly severe and frequent natural disasters will lead to unprecedented costs with an unpredictable impact on public finance. Finding a common strategy to ensure a sustainable, resilient and durable European economy is thus crucial.

As part of the work on this opinion, the ECO section decided to hold a public hearing bringing together experts from organised civil society and decision-makers. The aim of the hearing is two-fold: to discuss the draft EESC opinion, and to collect further views and ideas to expand and refine the EESC’s draft recommendations.

The event will be webstreamed (original, EN). No registration is needed and participation is free of charge.
