Conference on deep tech entrepreneurship for an innovative, resilient, and competitive internal market

On 1–2 June, the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU – in collaboration with the EIC – will host a high-level conference on Deep tech entrepreneurship for an innovative, resilient, and competitive internal market.

For a more globally competitive Europe the deep tech sector is a prioritised sector for Sweden and the EU. The conference is organised to provide a forum for knowledge exchange and co-implementation, within the framework of the New European Innovation Agenda (NEIA) and the Action Plan on Intellectual Property (APIP).

The conference will focus on these key challenges:

  • The importance of research-intensive companies for the green and digital transformation
  • Strategic use and management of intellectual assets
  • Financing for growth in Europe
  • Improved collaboration between small research-intensive companies, large companies and academia

We expect high-level participation, including key stakeholders from EU organisations and representatives of national and regional policy-making organisations, the start-up ecosystem, venture capital, academia and industry.

The introductory blocks consist of opening remarks from key policymakers and industry representatives such as:

  • Ebba Busch, Minister for Energy, Business and Industry and Deputy Prime Minister
  • Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for A Europe Fit for the Digital Age, and Commissioner for Competition
  • Sara Modig, State Secretary, Swedish Ministry of Climate and Enterprise
  • Tomas Naucler, Senior partner at McKinsey
  • Daren Tang, Director General at World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
  • Massimo Portincaso, Chairman of the Advisory Board at Hello Tomorrow
  • Marjut Falkstedt, Chief Executive at European Investment Fund

  • Niklas Zennström, CEO Atomico

Wrap up and conclusions

Among our speakers are:

  • Darja Isaksson, Directorate-General the Swedish Innovation agency Vinnova

We will also have workshops and networking with several key ecosystem project that contributes to the growth of deep tech in EU.

Only invited participants will attend this meeting. Parts of the programme will be livestreamed.
