Energy sector for a competitive EU

Following up on the recommendations in the Draghi report, ministers will publicly exchange views on the contribution of the energy sector to the competitiveness of the European Union.

Wholesale electricity prices

Ministers will hold a discussion on the divergence of wholesale electricity prices within the EU.

 

Winter preparedness

Energy ministers will discuss preparedness for the upcoming winter season. The Commission will give ministers an update on security of supply in the EU, which will be followed by a presentation on the energy situation in Ukraine by German Galushchenko, the Ukrainian Minister for Energy.

State of the energy union and REPowerEU

The Commission will present its report on the state of the energy union and provide a follow-up on the implementation of the REPowerEU plan.

Other business

The Commission will give an update on the implementation of Fit for 55.

The presidency will inform ministers about the Geothermal Energy Summit that took place in Budapest on 20 September 2024.

Cyprus will provide information about the Joint Statement on “Transforming the Mediterranean Region into a Green Energy Corridor” that was adopted on 23 September at the MED9 Energy Ministerial Summit.

Ireland will ask further analysis from the European Commission and cooperation from member states on biofuels supply from palm oil derivatives and fraud prevention.

Belgium will call for a coordinated implementation of EU restrictive measures on Russian LNG transshipments.

France will inform delegations about the need for the opening of the European hydrogen bank auctions to all low-carbon hydrogen

The Czech Republic will brief ministers on the European nuclear energy forum, held in Prague on 30 September and 1 October.
