Space

On Thursday morning, ministers responsible for space will start the COMPET Council with a half-day session.

Space Law

Ministers will hold an orientation debate on the incoming space law, that the Commission is expected to adopt soon, focusing on security, resilience, and sustainability.

Council conclusions on “Strengthening Europe’s competitiveness through space”

Ministers are expected to approve Council conclusions on “Strengthening Europe’s competitiveness through space” that will be discussed with the rest of European Space Agency (ESA) member states ministers in the following EU-ESA Space Council.

Other business

Ministers will also be informed on two topics:

the incoming Hungarian presidency will present its work programme in the field of space

the Director General of the ESA will make a presentation on “Accelerating the use of space in Europe”

 

Joint EU-ESA Space Council

The EU ministers responsible for space, together with the non-EU ministers that are part of ESA (Canada, Switzerland, Norway and United Kingdom), and the director general of ESA, will have a joint meeting where they will discuss the morning topic: “Strengthening Europe’s competitiveness through space”.

Research

On Thursday afternoon, ministers will continue with a half-day session or research issues.

EuroHPC

Ministers responsible for research are expected to adopt a Council position (political agreement) on the Council regulation for the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC) in view of enlarging the scope of this regulation to the use of performing computing to Artificial Intelligence projects.

Research security

Ministers are expected to adopt a recommendation on the reinforcement of security in research.

Ministers are invited to adopt Council conclusions knowledge valorisation.

Ex-post assessment of Horizon 2020

Ministers are also expected to adopt Council conclusions on the ex-post assessment that the Commission has done on the Horizon 2020 framework programme.

Ministers will hold a policy debate on research and innovation on advanced materials.
