Agenda of the EU-ASEAN ministerial meeting, 2 February 2024 (updated 1/2)

02 February

The 24th EU-ASEAN ministerial meeting will take place in Brussels on 2 February 2024. The meeting, which will be co-chaired by EU High Representative Josep Borrell and the Philippines’ Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo, will begin at 15:00, following a family photo at 12:30.

As recognised global leaders in regional integration, the EU and ASEAN are important strategic partners in championing multilateralism and international law.

The ministers will aim to advance key areas of cooperation between the EU and ASEAN such as in driving trade, with a focus on green initiatives, digital transition and the establishment of secure supply chains, providing updates on the Global Gateway Initiative and reviewing regional and global security developments. Ministers will also review the implementation of decisions adopted at the EU-ASEAN Commemorative Summit held one year ago in December 2022 and agree on future steps.

During last year’s EU-ASEAN Commemorative Summit, the EU pledged to mobilize €10 billion for connectivity projects in ASEAN under the Global Gateway initiative.

ASEAN Foreign Ministers have also been invited to participate in the EU’s 3rd Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum, to be held on the same day before the ministerial meeting.
