Rapid and structural responses to the current situation in the agricultural sector

Based on information from the presidency and the European Commission, agriculture ministers will discuss the responses to the current situation in the agricultural sector. The Council will focus on the measures that have been proposed or taken so far that are aimed at simplifying the common agricultural policy (CAP) and strengthening the position of farmers in the food supply chain.

Annual performance reports under the CAP

Based on information from the European Commission, the Council will exchange views on the annual performance reports submitted by member states to give an overview of the implementation of the CAP in their countries. This is the first exercise of its kind under the current CAP.

Over lunch, agriculture ministers will hold an informal discussion on the strategic dialogue for the future of agriculture.

Other business

Among the ‘Other business’ items on the agenda, the Finnish, Austrian, Swedish and Slovenian delegations are expected to inform the Council on the importance of the bioeconomy, while the Latvian delegation is expected to provide information on the fisheries control regulation and the margin of tolerance.
