High Representative/Vice-President (HRVP) Josep Borrell met the Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), President Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, in Brussels yesterday.
The meeting offered an opportunity to discuss the latest developments in the country and the status of the UN-led peace process. The HR/VP reiterated the firm support of the European Union for the efforts of United Nations and the work of the Special Envoy Hans Grundberg in Yemen.
The High Representative also expressed EU’s support to President Al Alimi and the Presidential Leadership Council, while also stressing the importance of unity and reforms.
As stressed in the latest Council Conclusions on Yemen, High Representative Borrell reaffirmed EU’s strong commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Yemen. The HR/VP also reiterated the deep concern about the dire humanitarian situation in the country, and the commitment of the European Union to Yemen across all areas – from humanitarian, to efforts aimed at ending the conflict.
