Déclaration du Haut Représentant Josep Borrell sur la situation dans le Niger:

L’Union européenne suit avec grande inquiétude les événements en cours à Niamey suite à une mutinerie d’une partie de la garde présidentielle à la résidence du Président Mohamed Bazoum. À cette heure, la situation reste tendue.
Nous réaffirmons notre plein soutien au Président Bazoum et notre conviction que le Niger est un partenaire incontournable de l’Union européenne au Sahel, dont la déstabilisation ne servirait les intérêts de personne ni dans le pays, ni dans la région et au-delà. Ce sont non seulement les efforts en cours contre les mouvements terroristes, mais également le sursaut politique et civil à l’œuvre au Niger, qui en souffriraient grandement.
L’Union européenne s’associe pleinement aux déclarations de l’Union africaine, de la Commission et de la Présidence en exercice de la CEDEAO pour condamner fermement cette attaque contre les institutions démocratiques et cette tentative de déstabilisation du pays.
L’Union européenne se tient à disposition de ses partenaires pour soutenir les efforts en cours afin de trouver une issue pacifique face à cette tentative de coup.

U.S State Department On Reports of an Attempted Takeover in Niger said:
Washington , 26 July 2023
The United States is gravely concerned about developments in Niger. We strongly support the democratically elected President and condemn in the strongest terms any effort to seize power by force and disrupt the constitutional order. We call for the immediate release of President Mohamed Bazoum and respect for the rule of law and public safety. We echo the strong condemnation of today’s action by the Economic Community of West African States. We are monitoring the situation closely and are in communication with the U.S. Embassy in Niamey.

UK Minister for International Development and Africa Andrew Mitchell made a statement following the violence in Niger

The UK is closely monitoring events taking place in Niger’s capital.
The UK condemns in the strongest possible terms any attempt to undermine stability and democracy in Niger.
The UK joins the African Union and Economic Community of West African States in their calls to end the unacceptable events seen today, and to ensure the full and swift restoration of Niger’s democratically elected institutions.
