The Swedish Government is engaged in intensive efforts following recent events, including the storming of the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad. Today, Minister for Foreign Affairs Tobias Billström met with the Riksdag parties in the Committee on Foreign Affairs to provide information about the ongoing work, which is ultimately about the safety and security of the Swedish people.

Mr Billström informed the Committee on Foreign Affairs about the extensive work carried out by the Government and Swedish embassies in the aftermath of demonstrations at which religious scriptures were desecrated and the storming of the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad.

The Government has been working intensively to maintain and strengthen the dialogue with numerous countries, partner organisations and faith communities.

“The Government has been very clear in its rejection of the offensive and disrespectful acts carried out by individuals at demonstrations in Sweden. This of course applies to all offensive acts regardless of religion. The Government attaches great importance to dialogue with relevant countries and organisations,” says Mr Billström.

The Government’s work is ultimately about the safety and security of Swedes both at home and abroad. But it is also about Swedish companies, which must be able to continue to trade in important markets.
