On 25 August 2021 the European Economic Area Joint Parliamentary Committee (EEA JPC) held its 56th meeting in Reykjavik, hosted by the Parliament of Iceland. The previous meetings of the EEA JPC were held remotely due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Discussions focused on the main developments in the implementation of the EEA agreement; the participation of the EEA EFTA States in EU framework programmes; the state of play and prospects of the new EEA/Norway grants; the Digital Service Act Package; the European Carbon Adjustment Mechanism; perspectives for future cooperation in the Arctic; and relations with the UK. Switzerland attended the meeting as an observer and provided information about the state of play of the EU-Switzerland relations.

The delegation of the European Parliament was led by Ms Christel SCHALDEMOSE, Member of the DEEA and Vice-president of the EU-Iceland working group.
