Copenhagen, 7 November 2024
Today, 7 November 2024, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had a telephone conversation with the incoming US President Donald Trump, in which she congratulated him on his election:
“We had a good conversation, where we had the opportunity to discuss, among other things, the war in Ukraine, Russia’s aggression, the cooperation between Russia, Iran and North Korea and the challenges from China.
I have previously worked with President Trump and believe that he has been absolutely right when he has repeatedly called for Europe to take greater responsibility for our own security. We have listened to that. And in Denmark we now use 2.4 per cent. of our GDP on defense and security. That is more than doubling the level from before President Trump first became president.
I asserted to President Trump that we are ready to provide even more from the Danish side.”
