A public hearing by the BECA and AIDA committees will discuss how AI can contribute to cancer research and care, on Thursday

When: Thursday 27 May (13.45-18.15)
Where: by videoconference

The debate will take place in two parts and can be followed via webstream here (13.45 – 15.45) and here (16.15 – 18.15). More details are available in the draft programme.

On 27 May, the Special Committee on Beating Cancer, in association with the Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence in a Digital Age (AIDA), will put the spotlight on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in cancer research, cancer care and personalised cancer medicine and issues related to data protection during a public hearing with eight leading experts in the field.

The event will have a particular emphasis on the treatment of health data and ensuring patients’ data privacy in the context of the data exchange mechanisms proposed in Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan that was presented by the European Commission in February 2021.

BECA and AIDA MEPs will look at ways in which the EU could further promote and facilitate cooperation and the sharing of knowledge on potential applications of AI in all dimensions of cancer research and innovation and oncology practices. This will include studying ways to advance and implement personalised treatment solutions in cancer care for all patients in Europe.
