Schwerin – 26/01/2022] The gas transmission company Gas for Europe GmbH is to become the owner and operator of the German part of the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline. This includes the approximately 54-kilometre section of the pipeline located in German territorial waters and the landfall facility in Lubmin, in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Gas for Europe is a subsidiary of Nord Stream 2 AG (Zug, Switzerland).

Gas for Europe GmbH is headquartered in Schwerin (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany). Reinhard Ontyd has been appointed Managing Director, having previously held a number of executive positions in various energy companies.

In November 2021 the Bundesnetzagentur (German Federal Network Agency) stated that a subsidiary would need to be established as a precondition for moving forward with the procedure to certify an independent transmission operator.

Gas for Europe GmbH will now direct all its efforts toward fulfilling the necessary requirements to move forward with the certification procedure.

Reinhard Ontyd has been  Managing Director of Gas for Europe since 22 December 2021.

Ontyd’s career began at the German gas transportation and trading company Ruhrgas. He spent over 20 years working in various executive positions within the German E.ON group, where he was responsible for areas such as long-term gas supply contracts, project management and legal affairs. As Chief Commercial Officer of Nord Stream 2, he was previously responsible for subcontracting, permitting and legal affairs related to the construction of the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline. Ontyd is a lawyer. He speaks German (native language) and English.
