Interference in the Western Balkans and authoritarian regimes’ misuse of social media are on the agenda of the committee on foreign interference next Thursday.

MEPs will examine how different state actors attempt to increase their influence in the Western Balkans through various means. At the meeting held with a thematic working group of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the following experts are going to speak:
- Tena Prelec, Research Fellow, Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Oxford
- Dejan Jović, Professor of Political Science, University of Zagreb and Visiting Professor at University of Belgrade
- Arlinda Rrustemi, Lecturer at Leiden University and a Director of Peace Analytics, and
- Stefan Vladisavljev, Program Coordinator, Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence Foundation for a Responsible Society
In the second half of the meeting, members hear and then discuss presentations of the in-depth analysis on the misuse of social media platforms and other communication channels by authoritarian regimes. Expert speakers are:
- Jakub Kalenský, Senior Fellow, Digital Forensic Research Lab, Atlantic Council
- Anastas Vangeli, Assistant Professor, School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana
- Elene Panchulidze, Programme Assistant Coordinator, European Endowment for Democracy
