The committee on Culture and Education, in association with the Civil Liberties and Foreign Interference committees, will discuss media freedom, protection of journalists and disinformation.

Independent Russian media professionals in exile (from “Meduza” and “TV Rain”) will attend the exchange and speak about counteracting disinformation and combating fake news, as well as representatives from Reporters Without Borders and EEAS. See the full programme here and follow online.

Background

Three months on after the brutal invasion of Ukraine, Russian armed forces, deliberately target and kill journalists and bomb broadcasting equipment. In parallel, Russians are left with no access to sources of independent information covering the events in Ukraine with a recently adopted law punishing anyone spreading “false information” on the war against Ukraine with up to 15 years in prison.
