Brussels, 16 June 2023

The EU warmly congratulates the people of Guinea-Bissau, the political actors and the election bodies for the calm, peaceful and highly participatory legislative elections that took place on 4 June for which final results were announced yesterday. The prompt acceptance of the results by all the main political leaders marks an important step in the consolidation of Bissau-Guinean democracy and stability.

The EU has provided meaningful support to the electoral process, in particular through the Civil Society Monitoring Cell, which deployed 200 observers throughout the country. The EU remains committed to work closely with the President of the Republic, the future Prime Minister and Government, and the new Parliament of Guinea-Bissau to strengthen our wide-ranging partnership in support of good governance and sustainable development.
