Lubljana, 8 May 2024

Today, ACER opens a public consultation (running from 8 May until 14 June 2024) on how to update the European market rules on gas transmission capacity allocation. The aim of the consultation is to collect practical proposals from stakeholders on how the gas Capacity Allocation Mechanisms Network Code (CAM NC) could be amended to better reflect the European decarbonisation targets and the evolution of the gas markets.

The review process

The process started in April 2024 with the European Commission inviting ACER to initiate the network code’s revision. It will take place throughout the year and conclude with ACER recommending amendments to the European Commission, who is ultimately responsible to revise the text of the network code.

What are the next steps?

ACER has prepared a policy paper which proposes potential improvements to the network code. The paper will serve as a starting point for the consultation to collect feedback and further proposals from stakeholders.

ACER will also organise a workshop (by invitation only) on 9 July 2024 (09:00 – 11:00 CET). Only respondents of the public consultation that will specifically express their interest in the survey will be invited to this workshop.

After considering the inputs received, ACER will draft a recommendation to the Commission on amending the network code by the end of 2024.
