Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis is in Geneva, Switzerland, today, to discuss EU priorities for the future of the World Trade Organization (WTO) ahead of the Twelfth Ministerial Conference meeting (MC12) – taking place from 30 November to 3 December 2021.

The trip will send a strong message on the EU’s ambitions to reform the WTO and deliver outcomes for MC12. The Executive Vice-President is meeting the Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of the WTO, as well as several key WTO Ambassadors. He will also deliver a keynote speech at an event organised by the Geneva Graduate Institute.

Executive Vice-President Dombrovskis said: “With less than three months to go until the WTO Ministerial, this is a critical moment. We need to work with all WTO members and we will have to address some big questions: from health issues to climate change to digital. But this will be the only way for us to set the WTO on track and help it stay relevant in the 21st century.”

The EU remains fully committed to deepening cooperation and reforming the WTO in support of an open, free, inclusive, transparent, rules-based, and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system.
