On Thursday and Friday, Vice-President Věra Jourová and Commissioners Ylva Johansson and Janez Lenarčič will attend the Justice and Home Affairs Council, in Luxembourg.

On Thursday, Commissioner Johansson will participate in the meeting of EU Home Affairs Ministers, together with Ministers of Schengen Associated Countries. In the morning, they will exchange views on the overall state of the Schengen area and the priorities for the Schengen Council Cycle 2024-2025. They are also set to discuss the implementation of the interoperability of IT system and exchange views on the future of EU visa policy. Commissioner Johansson will present the Common Implementation Plan for the Pact on Migration and Asylum, adopted by the Commission today. Commissioner Lenarčič will attend a working lunch to discuss preparedness and crisis response at EU level.

In the afternoon, the Ministers are set to discuss the consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine on EU’s internal security and Commission’s proposal to extend the temporary protection for displaced people from Ukraine. On Friday, Vice-President Jourová and Commissioner Johansson will attend the meeting of Justice Ministers. In the morning, Commissioner Johansson will participate in discussions on the fight against organised crime and drug trafficking, as well on the Commission’s proposals to combat corruption and update the criminal law rules on child sexual abuse and sexual exploitation. Vice-President Jourová will intervene on the Commission’s proposals to harmonise certain aspects of insolvency law and on the recognition of parenthood between Member States.

In the afternoon, the discussions will focus on the justice-related aspects of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as on progress regarding the implementation of the Istanbul Convention to combat violence against women and domestic violence which the EU acceded to in 2023. During the meeting, Vice-President Jourová will also present the Commission’s findings in the 2024 Justice Scoreboard which provides an annual overview of indicators on the efficiency, quality and independence of justice systems in all EU Member States.
