The Commission and the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina today signed an agreement associating Bosnia and Herzegovina with the EU4Health programme. This agreement will improve the capacity of the country’s health system to respond to the immediate health needs of citizens, and help strengthen its resilience.

With the entry into force of the agreement, health authorities and the entire health community in Bosnia and Herzegovina can fully benefit from EU funding opportunities under the EU4Health program, on an equal footing. equality with EU member states Norway, Iceland, Ukraine, Moldova and Montenegro. Retroactive to January 1, 2024, public and private entities in the health sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be able to access funding targeting critical areas, such as improved diagnosis, treatment and care of cancer, developing medicine storage strategies, strengthening mental health services, digitalizing healthcare and implementing initiatives to address cross-border health threats.

Stella Kyriakides, Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, said: “I very much welcome today’s agreement, whereby EU support under the EU4Health program will enable Bosnia and -Herzegovina to strengthen its health care sector. This agreement demonstrates the EU’s commitment to strong and fair cooperation to achieve our common goal of improving the health of citizens in the Union and beyond, as part of a Strong European Health Union”.
