EU to appoint special envoy to the Gulf – EU Commission answer

It is not Council policy to answer hypothetical questions, nor is it for the Council to comment on
press articles.
In accordance with Article 33 of the Treaty on European Union, the Council may, on a proposal
from the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, appoint a
special representative with a mandate in relation to particular policy issues. To date no proposal to
appoint a special representative for the Gulf has been received by the Council.
