The European Commission has decided to appoint Jean-Pierre Poncelet as Director for Standards, Dissemination, Cooperation in the European Statistical System in Eurostat (DG ESTAT). This Commission department is in charge of providing high-quality European statistics to policy makers, businesses, researchers and the public at large.

Jean-Pierre Poncelet, a Belgian national, is endowed with a thorough understanding of the intricacies involved in the development, production, and utilization of European statistics, as well as of EU policies. Combined with his exceptional management prowess and effective communication skills, his ability to navigate complex landscapes while fostering collaboration and driving results make him particularly suitable for his new role.

Jean-Pierre Poncelet has been acting Director for Standards, Dissemination, Cooperation in the European Statistical System and Head of Unit for Strategy and Programming in the European Statistical System Governance in Eurostat. Prior to that, he headed two units in the same Directorate-General: ‘Statistics for administrative purposes’ and ‘Government Finance Statistics;´Risk and Quality Management’. From 2010 until 2014, he was Assistant to the Director-General. Before joining the Commission in 2001 as Auditor and team leader for the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural development (DG AGRI), he was audit leader in the Belgian Court of Audit and in the Ministry of Finance.
