Brussels, 24 October 2022

Tomorrow, Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will represent the Commission at the Energy Council meeting in Luxembourg. Following the political guidance from EU leaders on 21 October, Commissioner Simson will work with ministers to advance work on the Commission’s proposed emergency regulation on tackling high gas prices and security of supply. EU energy ministers will also aim to reach a General Approach on the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive to help households reduce energy bills and decarbonise the EU’s building stock by 2050. Ministers will also discuss the Commission’s December 2021 proposal for a new EU framework to decarbonise gas markets, promote hydrogen and reduce methane emissions. In addition, the Commission will inform the ministers about the situation of the energy sector in Ukraine and Moldova. At the end of the meeting, Commissioner Simson will hold a press conference alongside the Czech Presidency of the Council. The arrival doorsteps and press conference will be livestreamed on Ebs.
