Today and tomorrow, EU Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit, is visiting Bratislava, Slovakia, for a series of meetings, and to attend the opening of the European Labour Authority (ELA).

Commissioner Schmit will meet the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Eduard Heger, and the President of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputová. They will discuss the implementation of Slovakia’s recovery and resilience plan, ESF+ programming, minimum wages, and many other social issues.

The Commissioner will also meet with Milan Krajniak, Minister of Employment, Social Affairs and Family, as well as with the Chairs of the Committees of Social Affairs and of EU Affairs of the Slovak Parliament, and with representatives of social partners.

This afternoon, he will visit a shelter with a day centre for homeless people run by DePaul Slovakia and co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived.

Tomorrow, Commissioner Schmit will deliver a keynote speech and participate in a panel discussion at the ELA opening conference to mark the official opening of the ELA premises. The ELA’s mission is to ensure that EU rules on labour mobility and social security coordination are enforced in a fair, simple, and effective way. The opening conference will take place in a hybrid format; registration is still open through the website until tomorrow.
