Brussels/Tallinn, 16 April 2024

On April 17, Ylva Johansson, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, will participate online in the European Conference on Crime Prevention to be held in Tallinn, Estonia. The conference will discuss how to prevent the recruitment of youth into organized crime and how local and regional administrations can combat activities of organized crime, including drug trafficking and human trafficking, as well as counter the infiltration of organized crime into the legitimate economy.

The European conference on crime prevention is a biennial event organized by the European Crime Prevention Network and funded by the Commission. It allows policymakers, practitioners, and academics to share their experiences and best practices in crime prevention across the EU.

Organized criminal groups are increasingly professional and transnational, and as their use of violence escalates in the EU, so does the threat posed by violent incidents. Organized crime poses a threat to the safety and security of EU citizens, and combating organized crime within the EU is a key priority for the Commission. The Commission is committed to fighting organized crime in all its dimensions. The implementation of the EU’s strategy to combat organized crime 2021-2025 and the EU roadmap on combating drug trafficking and organized crime is well underway, with the Member States and EU agencies.
