Brussels, 18 October 2024
On 21 October, Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, will travel to Athens to mark an important milestone in the creation of a network of trusted investors. This network will bring together a first group of venture capitalists committed to co-invest with the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund to develop innovative deep tech companies across Europe.
Commissioner Ivanova will also meet with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to discuss deepening cooperation on innovation and expansion efforts. This meeting will highlight Greece’s growing role in the European innovation landscape, exploring how EIC instruments can support national innovation policies and align with Greece’s start-up and investment priorities.
Commissioner Ivanova will be accompanied by Zoe Rapti, Deputy Minister of Development and Investment of Greece, in meetings with key stakeholders in the Greek ecosystem to discuss the obstacles to the development of EU high-tech companies. The Commissioner will also announce the latest companies joining the CEI Scaling Club, forming a community of 120 European deep tech expanding companies. The Club’s ambitious goal is to turn 20% of its members into “unicorns” — companies with a value of more than €1 billion.
