Tomorrow, Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra will be in Baku, Azerbaijan, to participate at the High-Level Segment of the COP29 UN Climate Change Conference and the World Leaders Climate Action Summit, on behalf of Commission President von der Leyen.
In the morning, the Commissioner will deliver opening remarks at the Ministerial Dialogue on ‘Scaling up investment for Tripling Renewables and Doubling Energy Efficiency’, following up the pledges made at COP28. During the afternoon, he will speak on behalf of the EU at the ‘High-Level Roundtable on Energy: Advancing Climate Mitigation Action’, hosted by the COP29 Presidency and the International Energy Agency, and will represent the Commission at a high-level meeting of the Climate Club. Finally, he will speak at the Summit on Methane and non-CO₂ Greenhouse Gases, co-hosted by the, COP29 Presidency, the United States and China.
In addition to these events, Commissioner Hoekstra will meet bilaterally with the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, President of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santhoki, the President of Kenya, William Ruto, the Minister for the Environment of Indonesia, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Secretary-General, Arsenio Dominguez.
