Today and tomorrow, Vice-President for Values and Transparency, Vera Jourova, is in Berlin to discuss how to strengthen democracies, in particular in the face of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. This morning she exchanged views with NGOs working on disinformation and participated in a roundtable discussion organised by the Bertelsmann Foundation.

In the afternoon, Vice-President Jourova will meet State Minister for Culture and the Media, Claudia Roth, to discuss the European Media Freedom Act ahead of the Culture Council next week. She will also hold a meeting with members of the German Bundestag Committees for European Affairs, Legal Affairs, Culture and Media, and Digital Affairs. On Friday, Vice-President Jourova will hold a series of meetings with the Minister for Transport and Digital Infrastructure, Volker Wissing, and Minister for Special Affairs and Head of the Federal Chancellery, Wolfgang Schmidt.

She is also set to meet representatives of the German Newspaper Publishers and Digital publishers Association (BDZV) to discuss the Media Freedom Act. The Vice-President will then hold a public debate at the European House in Berlin. During her visit, the Vice-President is also set to meet Russian independent media based now in Berlin to discuss the challenges that they are facing.
