EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Executive EU Commission VPs Frans Timmermans and Valdis Dombrovskis, and EU Commissioners Paolo Gentiloni, Elisa Ferreira, and Mairead McGuinness will participate in the EU Sustainable Investment Summit 2021 tomorrow, 7 October 2021.

The Summit is the first annual event on sustainable finance to be hosted by the European Commission. It was announced as part of the Sustainable Europe Investment Plan – the investment pillar of European Green Deal, which sets out how Europe will become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.

The conference will feature high-level speakers from across the world, including policymakers, entrepreneurs, investors, financial institutions, civil society representatives and citizens, who will exchange their ideas about how to unlock investment and finance to accelerate the transition towards climate neutrality. President von der Leyen will deliver the opening address.

Other speakers include: António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations; Michael R. Bloomberg, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Climate Ambition and Solutions; Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund; Elizabeth Wathuti, environmentalist and climate activist, Founder of Green Generation Initiative; Yi Gang, Governor of the People’s Bank of China; and Bill Gates, Founder of Breakthrough Energy and Co-chair of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
