Brussels, 19 January 2023
The European Commission has launched a public consultation on a new legislative proposal for the sharing of security-related information between the EU and third countries. At the moment, no EU mechanism allows for the systematic and real-time access by EU law enforcement authorities to third-countries’ security-related information, for instance, crime-related information. To strengthen the EU’s internal security, the Commission is working to enable the reciprocal access to such information between Member States and partner countries, while respecting the Union’s data protection requirements and fundamental rights standards. The consultation will allow stakeholders to share their views on how the initiative could contribute more effectively to EU security. It will be open until 16 March 2023.
