The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of joint control over McLaren Racing Limited (‘McLaren Racing’) of the UK, by McLaren Group Limited (‘McLaren Group’) of the UK, MSP Racing Holdings, L.P. (‘MSP’) and UBS O’Connor LLC (‘O’Connor’), both of the US. Prior to the transaction, McLaren Racing was jointly controlled by McLaren Group and MSP.
McLaren Racing is active in the development, production, racing, and marketing in connection with Formula 1 motorsport and other motorsport leagues.
McLaren Group is a holding company for the business activities of the McLaren group, which comprises the divisions of McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive Limited, a provider of luxury high performance cars.
MSP is an investment advisory firm that manages investments in professional sports teams, leagues, and businesses in the sports ecosystem. O’Connor is an investment adviser.
The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, because of the negligible actual or foreseen activity of McLaren Racing in the European Economic Area. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
