The European Commission has decided today to appoint Pernilla Sjölin as Head of its Protocol Service in the Secretariat-General (SG). The Protocol Service’s role is to facilitate high-level diplomatic contacts between the Commission and the Member States or third states, as well as other institutions and international organisations. The date of effect of this appointment will be determined later.

Pernilla Sjölin, a Swedish national, will benefit from her thorough understanding of the role and mission of the Protocol service, having worked for this service since 2011. She is equipped with her excellent organisation, presentation and communication skills, and also has a proven capacity to negotiate efficiently with high level stakeholders both internally and externally.

Pernilla Sjölin is currently Acting Director of the Protocol service, after having been Adviser and Deputy Chief of Protocol for almost three years, and before Principal Administrator and Senior Protocol Expert. She was assistant to the Director-General, and earlier in her career Head of Unit for Swedish Interpretation as well as Conference Interpreter and Presidency coordinator. She joined the Commission in 1996.
