The European Commission has decided today to appoint Denis Genton as Director for its Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL). He will be in charge of the Directorate ‘European Pillar of Social Rights, and Strategy’, which provides inter-institutional and legal coordination for the policy areas for which the DG is responsible.

The Directorate is also in charge of external and internal communication, the budget, policy planning cycle and IT developments.

Denis Genton, a French national, brings with him his thorough understanding of the main policies and priorities covered by DG EMPL, his solid experience in managing both considerable human and financial resources as well as his strong familiarity with a variety of management tasks. He is currently Head of unit ‘Labour Mobility, Public Employment Services (PES), European Labour Authority (ELA)’ in DG EMPL.

Earlier in this career, he worked as Head of Unit ‘Discharge procedure, relations with the European Court of Auditors and the budgetary control committee’ in the Directorate-General for Budget and was a Member of cabinet of Commissioners Dalia Grybauskaite, Algirdas Šemeta and László Andor, where his primary responsibilities involved budget and employment related matters. Before joining the Commission in 1994, he worked as Administrator for Business France, promoting French SMEs abroad.
