Today, Annika Wäppling Korzinek has been appointed as new Head of the European Commission Representation in Stockholm. In this function, she will act as the official representative of the European Commission in Sweden under the political authority of President Ursula von der Leyen. The date of effect of the appointment is 1 February.

Annika Wäppling Korzinek, a Swedish national, will draw on her extensive experience of 25 years mainly in European, but also Swedish affairs, including 7.5 years in the European Commission Representation in Stockholm as Deputy Head of Representation and Team Leader for Political and Economic Section, also acting as Head of Representation. In her new position, she will bring her thorough understanding of the EU, its decision-making processes and the political priorities of the Commission. She will also benefit from her experience in collecting, analysing and presenting political intelligence and her excellent management, representation and communication skills.

Annika Wäppling Korzinek holds a higher education degree in environmental assessment and evaluation from London School of Economics and Political Science and a degree of Bachelor of Science in Politics and Economics of Uppsala University.

Background

The Commission maintains Representations in all capitals of EU Member States, and Regional Offices in Barcelona, Bonn, Marseille, Milan, Munich and Wroclaw. The Representations are the Commission’s eyes, ears and voice on the ground in EU Member States. They interact with national authorities, stakeholders and citizens, and inform the media and the public about EU policies. Heads of Representations are appointed by the President of the European Commission and are her political representatives in the Member State to which they are posted.
