Filling up gas reserves in the EU, measures to save energy ahead of winter and the situation on the gas and electricity markets will be discussed with the European Commission’s deputy Director General for Energy Mechthild Wörsdörfer in the Industry, Research and Energy Committee.

On the 20th of July, the European Commission proposed a new legislative tool and a European Gas Demand Reduction plan to reduce gas use in Europe by 15% until spring 2023. The regulation was endorsed by the Council of ministers in August.

In June, Parliament and Council adopted legislation to quickly restock gas reserves before winter, in order to protect citizens and businesses from further disruption and shield gas reserves from outside interference.
