The European Parliament’s Industry, Research and Energy Committee re-elected Cristian Bușoi (EPP, Romania) as Chair for the second half of the legislative term, on Wednesday.

MEPs also re-elected Zdzisław Krasnodębski (ECR, PL), Morten Petersen (Renew, DK), Patrizia Toia (S&D, IT) and Lina Gálvez Muñoz (S&D, ES) as ITRE vice-chairs.

“I would like to thank the members of the ITRE Committee for their trust. As in most other parliamentary committees, we have chosen stability in order not to lose time in the face of the current challenges – the energy crisis, the climate crisis, and the necessary consolidation of our industry and supply chains” said Cristian Buşoi.

“During this second part of the legislature, the ITRE Committee will be very active in the work related to decarbonization and energy security, as well as in the digital transition. We will remain an involved and demanding partner alongside the Council and the Commission” he said.

Background

The process for the election of committee bureau is defined in Rule 213 of the Rules of Procedure.

The Chair presides over committee and coordinators’ meetings, represents the committee both within and outside the European Parliament and presides legislative negotiations led by the committee. Furthermore, the Chair has authority over voting procedures and rules on the admissibility of amendments.

Committee Chair and Vice-Chairs form the bureau, which is responsible for their respective committee’s smooth functioning. The committee bureau holds office for two and a half years (half of the legislature).
