Norway will continue its strong support for Ukraine’s war of self-defence. This was Foreign Minister Eide’s main message when he met his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba at the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels. The situation in Ukraine was a key topic at the meeting.
In recent weeks, Russia has further intensified its warfare, including extensive drone attacks against civilian infrastructure.
“We must prepare for the possibility that Russia’s war against Ukraine could drag out, and that Ukraine’s extensive military, civilian and humanitarian needs may persist. Russia’s war of aggression poses a persistent threat to European security and threatens our national interests. The message from a united NATO is clear: we will continue to stand by the Ukrainian people in their fight for Ukraine’s freedom”, says Foreign Minister Eide.
Norway is providing NOK 10 billion in military support and NOK 8.7 billion in civilian support to Ukraine in 2023 through the Nansen Programme for Ukraine, a five-year support programme adopted by a united Parliament.
