In Tuesday’s constitutive meeting, the Committee on Petitions elected its new Bureau, consisting of a Chair and four Vice-Chairs. The committee elected Mr Bogdan RZOŃCA (ECR, Poland) as its new Chair with 17 votes in favour, 16 against, and one abstention, for a period of 2.5 years.
The committee also elected its Vice-Chairs, all by acclamation:
- 1st Vice-Chair: Ms Dolors MONTSERRAT (EPP, Spain)
- 2nd Vice-Chair: Mr Fredis BELERIS (EPP, Greece)
- 3rd Vice-Chair: Mr Nils UŠAKOVS (S&D, Latvia)
- 4th Vice-Chair: Ms Cristina GUARDA (Greens/EFA, Italy)
ECR MEP Bogdan Rzońca elected Chairman of the Committee on Petitions
The Committee on Petitions has elected ECR MEP Bogdan Rzońca as its chair. Rzońca is a member of the Polish Law and Justice Party (PiS), and has been a member of the European Parliament since 2019. A teacher with a PhD in economics, he was twice a member of the Polish Sejm between 2010 and 2019.
Speaking after his election, Rzońca said:
“The Committee on Petitions aims to provide citizens with the opportunity to directly influence the governance process by examining their complaints and requests for action by the EU Institutions. As its Chair, I will strive to ensure that every voice is heard”.
On behalf of the ECR Group, the co-chairmen Nicola Procaccini and Joachim Brudziński congratulated Rzońca on his election.
