The discussion, held jointly by the committees on Artificial Intelligence in a Digital Age (AIDA) and on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO), will focus in particular on the “AI Act”, the recent Commission proposal for a Regulation laying down harmonised rules on artificial intelligence. The proposal suggests new rules and actions aiming to turn the European single market into a global hub for trustworthy AI.
The combination of the first-ever legal framework on AI and a new Coordinated Plan with Member States aims to guarantee the safety and fundamental rights of people and businesses, while strengthening AI uptake in the single market, investment and innovation across the EU.
