Ministers from EU member states responsible for education, youth, culture and sport will meet in Brussels to discuss a range of topics, including:

  • the social dimension of a sustainable Europe for youth
  • respect for human rights in the organisation of international sporting events
  • the European Media Freedom Act
  • the importance of reading for learning, equity and active participation in society
Youth and sport

On Monday 15 May, ministers for youth will aim to approve conclusions on the social dimension of a sustainable Europe for youth, with a focus on mental health. They will also discuss ways to improve the social inclusion of young people in the EU, in particular displaced Ukrainians.

In the afternoon, sports ministers will discuss the protection of human rights in sporting events and seek to approve a resolution reviewing member states’ representation on the board of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Culture, audiovisual and education

On the morning of Tuesday 16 May, the Council will turn its attention to culture and audiovisual issues, with ministers seeking to adopt conclusions on at-risk and displaced artists, a pressing topic in light of recent developments in Ukraine, Russia, Iran and China. The presidency will also present a progress report on the state of play of work in the Council on the proposal for a European Media Freedom Act.

Later that day, education ministers are expected to approve a resolution on stepping up efforts to achieving a European Education Area by 2025. In this regard, the Council will also aim to approve conclusions on making automatic mutual recognition in education and training qualifications a reality.
