Main results of the Foreign Affairs Council, 22 April 2024

The Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg discussed the Russian aggression against Ukraine in a joint session gathering both EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs and EU Ministers of Defence. They discussed the situation in the Middle East, with particular attention to the ever-worsening situation in the Gaza strip and the risk of escalation in the wider region.

Ukraine’s future summit: Opening remarks by EU Commissioner Várhelyi

“According to the World Bank’s Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment, released in February 2024, Ukraine’s reconstruction and recovery will cost $486 billion over the next decade. It combines both needs for public and private funds. The most pressing issues are the highest estimated needs of housing, transport, commerce and industry, agriculture, energy, social protection, and livelihoods” – EU Commissioner Várhelyi.
