EU Solidarity Fund grants €100m of advance payment to Slovenia following the summer floods

The floods were described by Slovenian authorities as the worst flooding disaster in Slovenia’s recent history, affecting almost two-thirds of the country. Key infrastructure such as roads and energy supplies were damaged, with hundreds of homes and buildings destroyed. 86m fake items worth more than 2bn Euro detained in the EU in 2022

Approximately 86 million fake items were detained in the European Union in 2022 (at the EU external border and in the internal market), according to a joint report by the EUIPO and the European Commission published today. The estimated value of fake items detained in the EU amounted to over EUR 2 billion, an increase of approximately 3 % in 2022 compared to 2021.

Eurojust/Europol: Ransomware group dismantled in Ukraine in a major international operation

Judicial and law enforcement authorities from seven different countries have joined forces in an action against a criminal network responsible for significant ransomware attacks across the world. These attacks are believed to have affected over 1,800 victims in 71 countries. The perpetrators targeted large corporations, effectively bringing their business to a standstill and causing losses of at least several hundred millions of euros.

Import of fishery products: EU Council adopts autonomous EU tariff quotas

The Council today unanimously adopted a regulation opening autonomous EU tariff quotas (ATQs) for certain fishery products for the years 2024, 2025 and 2026, and establishing rules for the management of these quotas. The newly adopted regulation aims to ensure that the EU’s fish processing industry can continue to source raw materials for further processing from non-EU countries at reduced rates of duty or duty-free.

EU Commission approves amendment to State aid measures supporting resolution of Polish Getin Noble Bank

The Commission approved the initial support measures in October 2022 (SA.100687). According to the resolution plan, after the bank was resolved, its main assets and liabilities were transferred to a newly created bridge bank. EU Commission greenlights Slovakia’s €662m RRF request

Today, the Commission has endorsed a positive preliminary assessment of Slovakia’s payment request for €662 million in grants under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the key instrument at the heart of NextGenerationEU.
