EU Commission clears acquisition of BMS by VWFS and Pon.Bike

The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of joint control of Bike Mobility Services B.V (‘BMS’) of the Netherlands by Volkswagen Financial Services AG (‘VWFS’) of Germany and Pon Bicycle Holding B.V. (‘Pon.Bike’) of the Netherlands.
The transaction relates primarily to the bike leasing sector.

EU Commission signs €400m agreement with Türkiye to support its recovery after the 2023 earthquakes

Today, the Commission signed an agreement with Türkiye on a €400 million grant from the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) to finance post-disaster recovery operations after the devastating earthquakes that hit the country in early 2023.
The signing of the agreement took place in Brussels, between Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira and Turkish Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mehmet Kemal Bozay.

EU Commission refers Belgium and Luxembourg to court over procedural rights

On 23 September 2021, the Commission sent a letter of formal notice to Belgium concluding that the following parts of the Directive had not been transposed correctly: the right of a minor to have access to a lawyer in a concrete and effective manner; derogation from the right of access to a lawyer due to geographical remoteness; and derogations from the right of access to a lawyer in criminal proceedings.

MEPs adopt new rules to limit exposure to harmful substances at the workplace

In the EU, approximately 50 000 to 150 000 workers are exposed to lead and 4.2 million workers to diisocyanates every year. The European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) lays down rules on over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives, central counterparties (CCPs) and trade repositories. The proposed EMIR review contains several legislative measures to improve EU clearing services, notably by streamlining and shortening procedures, improving consistency between rules, strengthening CCP supervision and requiring market participants of substantial systemic importance, who are subject to a clearing obligation, to have an operationally active account at an EU CCP.

Myanmar military-linked enterprises and infantry divisions sanctioned 3 years on from the military coup
