The future of European competitiveness

Ministers will discuss the future of European competitiveness and how to tackle the challenges facing industry and businesses in the single market.

The policy debate follows discussions on the issue at the European Council meeting of 17-18 April 2024, and the Competitiveness Council on 24 May, along with the presentation of former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s report on 9 September.

The state aid framework

The second policy debate will focus on the state aid framework and how it supports EU policy objectives.

This discussion follows the publication of the Commission’s 2023 report on competition policy.

During an informal lunch, ministers will discuss the topic ‘SMEs reaping the benefits of the single market’.

Other business

Under any other business, two items will be discussed:

e-commerce, at the request of the German delegation, and
