Meetings of EU Commission Members on 24 September 2024

President Ursula von der Leyen attends the 79th United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, US, together with Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager, High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell, Vice-President Dubravka Šuica, and Commissioners Stella Kyriakides, Didier Reynders, Ylva Johansson, Janez Lenarčič, Jutta Urpilainen, Kadri Simson and Wopke Hoekstra. They will host and participate in events and meetings with leaders from around the world, and have a number of high-level bilateral meetings in New York throughout the week.

President Ursula von der Leyen participates in the opening of the 79th United Nations General Assembly; delivers the opening remarks at the Global Renewables Summit; co-hosts an event on carbon-pricing, together with Mr Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada.

Ms Margrethe Vestager in Washington D.C., USA: meets with Mr Jonathan Kanter , Assistant Attorney General, US Department of Justice.

Mr Josep Borrell in New York, US: participates in the 79^th session of the United Nations General Assembly; delivers keynote speech at the High-Level UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine.

Ms Vĕra Jourová meets with Mr Thomas Jensen, CEO of Milestone Systems.

Mr Margaritis Schinas in Madrid, Spain (until 25/09): participates in a panel session ‘The future of the EU: feasibility of enlargement’ organised by the Asociación de Periodistas Europeos; meets with Angel Victor Torres, Minister for Territorial Policies and Democratic Memory of Spain.

Mr Johannes Hahn in Santiago de Chile, Chile (until 25/09): meets with government representatives and investors to promote the EU as an issuer.

Mr Janusz Wojciechowski in Skopje, North Macedonia: participates in the 18th Annual Meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture from South Eastern Europe (SEE).

Ms Stella Kyriakides in New York, US: attends the Food Waste Champions 12.3 and World Resources Institute (WRI) Public Event; delivers a speech at the UN General Assembly side event ‘The IPC and Antimicrobial Stewardship: from policy to implementation at the point of care’; delivers pre-recorded remarks at the SIOPE Policy Event ‘Why Childhood Cancer should stay high on the EU agenda for 2024-2029?’.

Mr Didier Reynders participates in the ‘session de rentrée’ of European Business Summit (EBS); opens the RAID Conference 2024.

Ms Ylva Johansson in Washington, US: meets with Mr Merrick Garland, Attorney General of the United States of America; meets with Mr Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security of the United States of America.

Ms Kadri Simson in New York, US: participates in the IEA-COP29 Event ‘Turning Methane Pledges into Action’;  participates in the Global Renewables Summit 2024 roundtable on ‘Scaling up public and private renewable energy finance‘.

Ms Mairead McGuinness in La Hulpe, Belgium: visits the Swift headquarters and meets with Mr Javier Pérez-Tasso, CEO, and senior executives.

Ms Iliana Ivanova meets with the High-Level Group on the Interim Evaluation of Horizon Europe.
