EU Commissioner Schmit to participate in the meeting of EU employment and social affairs ministers

Today, Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit, will take part in the meeting of EU employment and social affairs ministers (EPSCO).

Commissioner Schmit will join a debate on the proposed directive on platform work, as the ministers will seek to approve the provisional agreement reached between the Council and the European Parliament on 8 February 2024. He will also participate in a policy debate on the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights in the context of the European Semester 2024 and the EU’s future social agenda. Ministers will also discuss the European Semester autumn package and are set to approve conclusions on the Commission’s joint employment report and annual sustainable growth survey, as well as key messages on the implementation of the Council recommendation on the reinforced Youth Guarantee.

In addition, the Belgian Presidency of the Council, together with the Commission, will provide information on the state of play of several initiatives, including the legislative proposal for a new European Disability Card and European Parking Card for Persons with Disabilities.

Tomorrow, employment and social affairs ministers will take part in a policy debate with ministers of economics and financial affairs on social investments and reforms for resilient economies.
