Market situation

Ministers will discuss the market situation in light of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, in order to take stock of the various developments impacting agrifood products and the EU’s agrifood sector. Before the Council debate, Mykola Solskyi, the Ukrainian Minister for Agrarian Policy and Food, is expected to address the ministers.

Waste framework directive – food-related aspects

On the basis of information provided by the Commission and the presidency, ministers will publicly exchange views on the food-related aspects of the proposed targeted amendment of the waste framework directive.

 

Fisheries

Fishing opportunities for 2024 in the Baltic Sea

Ministers will aim to reach a political agreement on next year’s fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea.

ICCAT annual meeting

Ministers will hold an exchange of views which will provide guidance to the Commission on the position to be taken by the EU at this year’s annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), which will be held on 13-20 November 2023.

Other business

Under “Other business”, the Council will receive information from the Czech delegation on the Visegrád group meeting, from the Croatian and Slovenian delegations on crisis management, and from the Lithuanian delegation on prospects for organic farming.

During a public session, the presidency will provide updated information to the Council regarding the agricultural and forestry aspects of the proposal on the certification of carbon removals. Also in public session, the Polish delegation will provide ministers with information on the impact of the EU’s emissions trading system on the agricultural sector, while the Austrian delegation will inform the Council on challenges for the farming sector.
